Trip Overview

Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, is a beautiful city where you can explore the charisma of culture, spirituality, and a unique lifestyle. This tour of 8 days and 7 nights will take you through some of the incredible cultural places in Tibet. Lhasa is a state-level historical and cultural metropolis in China, and it is considered a holy land by Tibetan Buddhists. 

Exploring the wonderful places in the cities of Lhasa, Gyantse, and Xigatse provides an insight into Tibetan culture and way of life. What could be more intriguing than commuting through the Himalayas and passing over some high Himalayan passes? Exploration of the historic and spiritual Potala Palace, monasteries, and market places, among other locations, provides an in-depth understanding of Tibetan culture and life. The view of the towering snow-capped Himalayan peaks from the trans-Himalayan flight to and from Lhasa is spectacular.

This fascinating cultural and spiritual tour will open your eyes to many elements of life.

Itenerary

You will meet our representative at the arrival terminal of International airport of Nepal. They will greet and welcome you to Nepal. You will be transferred to your pre-booked hotel. Once you finish the check- in procedure at the hotel, you can relax for a while. After a short rest, we will take you to Thamel- tourist hub of Kathmandu, to make you familiar with some good restaurants, ATMs, money exchangers, supermarkets and gear shops. After exploring the tourist hub, we then take you to our office for trip briefing meeting. Overnight in hotel. If your arrival is late today, the trip briefing meeting and tour to Thamel will be held the very next day.
After having a delicious breakfast at the hotel, you will be transferred to airport for the flight to Lhasa. The flight route to Lhasa will offer you stunning views of the different Himalayan range. As soon as you land in Lhasa (Land of Gods), you will be picked up and transferred to the hotel. After checking in at the hotel and freshening up, we will take you to explore the Lhasa city. Overnight in hotel.
Today we will spend our full day exploring the majestic city of Lhasa. The city is rich in culture, tradition, lifestyle and spirituality. We will go to visit Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Market. First we will visit Potala Palace, which was built in 7th century by 33rd king Songtsen Gampo as a gesture of love for his Chinese wife Princess Wencheng. Later in 17th century, it was rebuilt by 5th Dalai Lama. The Palace is divided in two sections Red Palace and White Palace. The Red Palace is used as religious section while the White Palace is used as an administrative area. The palace provides an amazing view with spiritual aura. After Potala Palace, we go to visit Jokhang Temple. The temple, lying in the east of Potala Palace is one of the most sacred temple all over Tibet. The architectural structure of temple is built by mixing Indian and Nepalese style. We will then walk through Barkhor Market, where we can enjoy local foods, products and make conversation with the vendors. Experience the local social life in the market. Overnight in hotel.
After an early morning breakfast, we embark on a pleasing drive to Gyantse. It is 261 kilometers away from Lhasa. We drive past the Kora La (5010 m) and Kamba La (4794 m), enjoying the amazing views of the majestic glaciers. We come across the breathtaking view of Lake Yamadroke. It is one of the holy lakes in Tibet. Check-in at the hotel once you reach in Gyantse. Overnight in hotel.
In first half of the day, we will go for sightseeing tour in Gyantse. We will go to explore the Pholkor and Khumbum monasteries. We will have lunch after exploring picturesque Gyantse and then drive to Xigatse which is 90 km from Gyantse. We will drive across the highway enjoying a captivating mountain landscape along the way. After reaching Xigatse, we check-in at the hotel and rest for a while. Overnight in hotel.
After having breakfast, we will go for sightseeing for the first half of the day. After exploring different monasteries in the city, we will have our lunch and drive back to Lhasa. Driving through the country road takes us back to Lhasa for the overnight stay. Since, this will be our last night in Tibet, we will roam around the city to learn more about Tibetan culture and lifestyle. Overnight in hotel at Lhasa.
You will be transferred to airport for the flight to Kathmandu. Enjoy this amazing flight over the Himalayas, with the views of majestic mountain peaks including Mt. Everest. Once you arrive at the airport, our city tour guide will take you on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu. The tour includes the sightseeing of the following places: Pashupatinath Temple: It is one of the most sacred Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the bank of Bagmati River. Every year pilgrims from all over the world come to worship this temple. You will be amazed to see death people being cremated in an open air, along the bank of holy River Bagmati. Since, the temple is strictly "Hindus only", the Hindus will only be permitted to enter the main temple, while other buildings are available for foreigners to visit. Around the temple premise, you will meet some Hindu men who have unique appearance with yellow paintings on their body. These men are very tourist friendly and are ready to pose for photo, in exchange of monetary donation. Patan Durbar Square: You will visit this palace which is very much rich in fine arts. It has beautiful ancient pagoda temples and palace buildings that are embellished with magnificent woodcraft skills. You will also walk around local ethnic settlement area to learn their way of life. Swoyambhunath Temple: Swoyambhunath temple (Monkey Temple) is the oldest site in Kathmandu valley. A massive ancient stupa (Buddhist holy shrine) is located at the hill-top of the valley. From the top of the stupa premise you can get the clear view of Kathmandu valley. Similarly, you will learn interesting stories related to this site and find some stubborn monkeys. You will also enjoy the spiritual aura of this wonderful place. Overnight in Hotel.
As per your flight schedule, you will be transferred to International airport of Kathmandu three hours prior to you flight time.

Equipment Checklist

You are advised to carry a document bag to manage the following documents properly:

Medicines and First Aid Kits

(Our guides will carry first aid kit bag during the trek. We still recommend you to bring your personal first aid kit as you feel it necessary).

  1. Headache and fever medicine
  2. Ibuprofen for general aches and pains
  3. Burnt cream
  4. Immodium or Pepto Bismol capsules for upset stomach and diarrhea
  5. Diamox (commonly prescribed as Acetazolamide). Please discuss with us before starting to take this medicine.
  6. Antibiotics
  7. Blister treatments such as moleskin, hand plasts, Band-Aids, some waterproof tape, anti- infection ointments etc.

Miscellaneous

  1. Passport and extra passport photos (2 copies)
  2. Durable wallet/ pouch for travel documents, money and passport

  5. Favorite snack foods and energy bars
  6. Paperback books, cards, mp3 player. Avoid players with moving hardware as it may not function. Remember, keep these items lightweights.

All garments should be kept dry using waterproof stuff sacks or large puncture resistant plasic bags.
