Khaptad National Park is located in the far western region of Nepal, covering an area of 225 sq. km. The Khaptad region is well known for its religious importance and natural beauty. This national park is named after the late Khaptad Baba, an Indian saint who lived and meditated in this park for 50 years. His writing on spirituality is quite popular.
The park is remote and least advertised, making your experience both challenging and rewarding.
The rolling mountain and its 22 open patches of grasslands are the most popular, with Khaptad Daha (lake) and rich flora consisting of montane, sal, pine, fir, oak, birch, and rhododendron. In the park, approximately 135 species of flowers are found along the grasslands, along with as many as 224 species of medicinal herbs. Not only is it rich in flora, but it is also rich in fauna, with some 226 bird species: the most common are the impeyan pheasant (Danphe, Nepal's national bird), many types of partridges, flycatchers, bulbuls, cuckoos, and eagles.
