Kanchenjunga Expedition

Trip Overview

The Kanchenjunga Expedition takes you to Mount Kanchenjunga, Nepal's second-highest peak and the world's third-highest peak, at 8586 meters above sea level. This snow-capped summit can be found in eastern Nepal, near the Nepal-Sikkim border, 46 miles northwest of Darjeeling (India), in a rural and untouched region.

There are various researchers' interpretations of the name. It is claimed to come from the Sanskrit phrase "Kancan Jangha," which means "golden thigh." The majority of people believe its name comes from the Tibetan word 'Kang-Chen-doz-nga,' which is roughly translated as Kanchenjunga. It is also claimed that the name comes from a local Sikkim god who sits at the peacock's nest. Its name is also said to have originated from a native Sikkim god who sits atop the summit as though riding a white lion. The name is still a mystery.

A British expedition team first climbed this summit in 1955.

The Kanchenjunga area offers some of the most beautiful landscapes, with over 250 kinds of birds and mammals, as well as high alpine lakes in Olangchunggola. There are ten species of Nepal's 20 indigenous gymnosperms and 15 endemic flowering plants available here. There are also 30 rhododendron kinds and 69 orchid varieties in the area.

The Kanchenjunga expedition is full of wonder, and many thrill seekers would place seeing this pristine land of unspoiled beauty in this wonderful location on their bucket list.
