Annapurna Massif is one of the major attractions of the Annapurna region and Annapurna I is one of the parts of the magnificent massif. Mount Annapurna I is the world’s tenth highest mountain at 8,091 meters and 26545 ft. The mount is surrounded by the beautiful Kali Gandaki gorgeto to the west and Marsyangdi riverin to the north and east. 

Annapurna is also knowns as the “goddess of the harvests” in Sanskrit, which means full of food. In 1950, June 3 the French climber Maurie Herzog and Louis Lachenal summit the Mt. Annapurna I for the first time and it is the highest summit accomplished on world for three years, until the first successful summit of the Mount Everest.

Equipment Checklist

You are required to bring everything on this list. Some of the equipment mentioned down below can be easily found in stores in Kathmandu with affordable prices. Numerous options, brands, and versions of each piece of equipment can be found. 

Climbing Gear

  1. Ice Axe: (standard; around 65-70 cm, depending on height)
  2. Seat harness
  3. Locking carabiners : 6 (Automatic locking type with large pear shape)
  4. 2 adjustable ski pole
  5. Plastic mountaineering boot

Head Gear

  1. Warm hat that covers your ears too (wool or synthetic )
  2. Balaclava
  3. Face mask
  4. Shade hat or baseball cap
  5. Glacier glasses (100% UV protection with side shields and a hard-sided storage case)
  6. 1 ski goggles with UV protection

  Upper Body

  1. 2-3 cotton t-shirt
  2. 1 polypropylene t-shirt
  3. 2 long sleeve polypropylene shirts ( Lightweight, light colored)
  4. 1 Windcheater jacket
  5. Down/synthetic sweater or vest
  6. Hard shell jacket with hood (Waterproof and breathable)
  7. 1 expedition down parka with hood

Hand Wear

  1. 2 pairs of liner gloves (Thin wool or polypropylene)
  2. A pair of warm gloves(fleece or wool)
  3. A pair expedition shell gloves

Lower Body

  1. A pair of nylon shorts
  2. A pair of nylon pants for trekking and around camp
  3. 2 pairs of lightweight long underwear bottoms
  4. 1 pair fleece pants with side zipper or “puff-ball pants”
  5. 1 pair soft shell pants
  6. 1 pair of hard shell pants
  7. Waterproof/breathable with full side zips

Foot wear:

  1. 3-4 pairs of liner socks
  2. 2-3 pairs of lightweight trekking socks
  3. 2 pairs of medium-heavy wool socks
  4. 1 pair down booties (optional)
  5. 1 pair trail shoes for the hike to base camp and use at camp
